NATO urged to prepare for broader confrontation with Russia

NATO should review its strategic framework and prepare for a confrontation with Russia that would go beyond the Battle for the Atlantic or land operations in Europe.

Axar.az reports that this was noted in the latest review of the NATO War College.

The author of the document, a research fellow at the college, Andrew Monaghan, argued that the development of all the state's naval forces is a key feature of Moscow's policy. The expert noted that this allows Russia to position itself as a leader in the era of geoeconomic competition.

"This shifts the framework of NATO's landmarks away from the restored 'Battle for the Atlantic' or scenarios of land operations in Northeast Europe, towards a multi-front, diverse Russian challenge with global horizons," the review said.

Alliance analysts also noted that crisis scenarios often focus on increasing tensions in a single strategic direction from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea.
