Syria to remove Assad’s image from currency

Syria will remove the image of ousted President Bashar al-Assad from its national currency starting January 1 next year.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by the head of the Central Bank of Syria, Abdulqadir al-Khasriya.

He said that this step will symbolize the beginning of a new stage in the economy of the Syrian state.

Currently, Syria still uses the old national currency, the pound, which has portraits of Hafez al-Assad and Bashar al-Assad on it.
