Boat accident in northern Nigeria kills at least 25

A tragic boat accident has occurred in northern Nigeria, leaving at least 25 people dead.

Axar.az reports, citing Finland’s Yle, that the incident took place on Saturday evening on the Yobe River as a boat carrying dozens of passengers was traveling from the village of Adiyani in Jigawa State to neighboring Yobe State.

According to authorities, the boat sank due to a leak. There were a total of 52 people on board; only 13 were rescued. Another 14 passengers are considered missing.

It was noted that such incidents are widespread in Nigeria due to overloading of ferries and poor compliance with water transport safety regulations.
