Milan tram accident leaves 1 dead, 39 injured

At least one person has died and 39 others were injured, some seriously, after a tram derailed in Milan, northern Italy.

Axar.az, citing BBC, reports that the crowded tram, operating on line 9, was traveling along Viale Vittorio Veneto around 16:00 local time (15:00 GMT) when it left the tracks and collided with a building.

Civil protection teams have set up a tent at the scene to assist the injured.

The cause of the derailment is unclear, though media reports suggest the tram may have taken a sharp turn too quickly as it exited Viale Vittorio Veneto.

The accident occurred while Milan is hosting Fashion Week, with the city filled with international visitors, celebrities, and journalists.
