UK hypersonic program aims for strike capability by 2030

The UK Ministry of Defense has awarded a £12 million contract to Amentum UK to accelerate the development of hypersonic missiles.

Axar.az reports, citing UK Government, the program aims to produce a demonstration weapons system through flight testing, which will later be adapted into prototypes capable of extreme speeds and temperatures.

Since July 2024, the hypersonic program has involved 124 suppliers and 22 contracts worth £48 million.

The program is designed to field a hypersonic strike capability by 2030, in line with the Strategic Defense Review and ongoing increases in UK defense spending.

This initiative is part of the UK’s sovereign hypersonic capability program, supporting national security, NATO deterrence, and the domestic defence industrial base.
