At an event honoring wrongfully detained Americans and hostages, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Monday that Iran’s recent retaliatory actions highlight the threat it poses both regionally and globally.

Axar.az reports, citing ABC, Rubio said: “They are attempting to hold the world hostage. They are targeting neighboring countries, attacking energy infrastructure, civilian populations, and even embassies. This is a terrorist government—a terroristic regime.”

He also observed a moment of silence for the seven Americans who were killed.

“We are all deeply moved by their service, bravery, and courage,” Rubio added. “Our thoughts and support go out to their families during this difficult time, and to the families of these incredible heroes.”
