Flash floods and landslides in Afghanistan kill 17

Severe flash floods and landslides across several regions of Afghanistan have claimed 17 lives and left 26 injured.

Axar.az reports, citing ANDMA, spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Authority, Yusuf Hammad, stated the disaster has impacted 13 of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces, mainly in the western, central, and northwestern regions.

Rescue operations are ongoing, and officials warn the death toll could rise.

Hammad noted that the extreme weather has caused the total or partial destruction of 147 homes, damaged 80 kilometers of roads, and affected agricultural fields, irrigation canals, and local enterprises.

Meteorological forecasts indicate heavy rains will continue, with a high risk of further flooding in the eastern and central parts of the country.
