Poverty affects one in five Europeans, EU says

Poverty affects one in five Europeans, including one in four children.

Axar.az reports, citing European Commission, that around 93 million people across the European Union are at risk of poverty or social exclusion, while nearly 1 million people are homeless.

According to the Commission, the EU has proposed new measures aimed at preventing poverty and housing exclusion, as well as supporting those already affected.

The European Commission stated that the EU’s first-ever anti-poverty strategy seeks to reduce the number of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion by at least 15 million by 2030, while pursuing the longer-term goal of eradicating poverty by 2050.

The new measures will focus on improving access to quality jobs, social services, income support, childcare, healthcare, and affordable housing.
