Over 290 flights cancelled as typhoon nears Okinawa

More than 290 flights have been cancelled in Japan due to the impact of an approaching typhoon expected to reach Okinawa Prefecture on June 2.

Axar.az reports, citing NHK, domestic airlines have cancelled a total of over 290 flights scheduled between May 31 and June 2, mainly affecting routes to and from Okinawa.

On May 31, a small number of flights were cancelled, while on June 1, major airlines, including All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, Japan Transocean Air, RAC, and Solaseed Air, cancelled a large number of services, with ANA suspending all flights to and from Naha, Ishigaki, and Miyako airports for the day. Additional cancellations have also been confirmed for June 2.

The National Meteorological Agency said the typhoon is currently located south of Okinawa and is moving northward. It is forecast to approach the Amami Islands on June 1 and reach the main island of Okinawa the following day.

Airlines have warned that further cancellations and delays may occur depending on the typhoon’s path and have urged passengers to check the latest updates.
