Estonia to begin building military town in Narva

Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur has said that construction of a military town in Narva will begin this year.

Axar.az reports, citing the Estonian Defense Ministry, Pevkur made the statement during a visit to Ida-Viru County, where he discussed the project with city officials and representatives of the defense forces.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed that the city of Narva would support the further advancement of the project as early as June. The ministry said this would allow the necessary conditions to be prepared for launching a state tender for construction and establishing temporary infrastructure to ensure the presence of the Estonian Defense Forces in the border city as soon as possible.

According to Pevkur, the construction of the military town is a strategic decision in the field of national security.

The minister stressed that the project would not only strengthen Estonia’s defense capabilities but also increase the state’s presence in Narva.

He also expressed confidence that the new facility would attract active residents to the region and have a positive impact on the local economy.
