Araghchi says he was in Khamenei’s office during strike

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that he was in the office of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Seyyed Ali Khamenei, during an Israeli-American attack at the beginning of the war.

Axar.az reports, citing Al-Mayadeen, Araghchi said he had returned from Geneva negotiations and went to the Supreme Leader’s office on Saturday at 9 a.m. to present a report on the talks and the developments that had increased the likelihood of war.

He stated that the building where they were meeting was targeted in the attack.

“At the moment of the martyrdom of Seyyed Ali Khamenei, I was in his office, which was targeted in the attack. The building we were sitting in was struck, but the wing we were in remained intact,” he stated

Araghchi added that during the incident, his main concern was the fate of the Supreme Leader, and he spent the first two days uncertain about his condition until confirmation was received.

“While we were trying to get out from under the rubble, my only thought was whether he had been targeted or not. I was extremely worried during the first and second day about what had happened to the Leader until the news of his martyrdom was confirmed,” he added.

He said the event was a “turning point in Iran’s history,” adding that it demonstrated Iran’s strength rather than weakening it, as some had expected.

He also noted that Iran’s institutional system remained stable and leadership continuity was ensured following the incident.
