Gagik Tsarukyan, the leader of the "Prosperous Armenia" Party, attempted to leave the country today.

Axar.az reports, citing Armenian media, he was detained by law enforcement officers at Zvartnots International Airport.

It should be noted that the prosecution has initiated public criminal prosecution against Prosperous Armenia Party chairman Gagik Tsarukyan, according to the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia.

"Criminal prosecution has been initiated under Article 290, Section 3, Paragraph 2 (tax evasion on a particularly large scale) of the Criminal Code. The ban on absence [from Armenia] has been chosen as a preventive measure," the Prosecutor General's Office added.
