Cyprus Turkish History Society revived after 63 years

The Cyprus Turkish History Society (KTTK), which operated in Cyprus between 1960 and 1963, has been reactivated in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus after 63 years.

Axar.az reports, citing Cypriot media, that the organization has resumed operations.

The organization is headed by former TRNC Minister of Culture and Tourism Ismail Bozkurt, who said its primary task is to hold the first Congress on the History of Turkish Cyprus, as well as to publish journals and books on Turkish Cypriot history.

Bozkurt described the long-standing absence of a dedicated institution for the history of the Turkish Cypriot people as a “serious shortcoming,” stressing the need to strengthen historical research and collective memory.

He also noted that the society aims to ensure an objective and comprehensive discussion of the Cyprus issue at international events involving scholars from both the Greek Cypriot side and Greece.

Another priority of the KTTK will be the inclusion of the Turkish Cypriot struggle for freedom in educational curricula at secondary and higher education levels.
