Katz: Israel won’t leave Lebanon security zones

Israel will not withdraw from its security zones in Lebanon and Syria, even if the United States demands it.

Axar.az reports, citing Ynet, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz made the remarks while speaking at the MUNI EXPO 2026 conference of the Federation of Local Authorities in Israel.

“The IDF must be on the enemy’s side of the border and protect the communities from within the territory itself,” Katz said.

Katz said Israel is maintaining a unified security model on its northern fronts and will not leave the security zones as long as Hezbollah remains disarmed.

“All three security zones operate under the same model and reflect the current reality. As long as Hezbollah is not disarmed, we will not leave the security zone,” he said.

He added that Israel’s presence in Lebanese territory is aimed at protecting communities in the north and maintaining security.
