Lithuanian parliament approves Sinkevicius as PM

Lithuania's parliament on Tuesday approved Mindaugas Sinkevicius as the country's new prime minister, making him the third Social Democrat to hold the post since the party won the 2024 parliamentary election.

Axar.az reports that Sinkevicius, 42, replaces Inga Ruginiene, who resigned last week following a reshuffle of the ruling coalition.

"I will strive to be a Prime Minister who unites rather than divides, who listens and is not afraid to make decisions," Sinkevicius told lawmakers after the vote.

He has 15 days to form a cabinet and present the government's program, which must be coordinated with President Gitanas Nauseda and approved by parliament.
