Extreme heat sets new record across Ukraine

An extreme heat wave set dozens of temperature records across Ukraine on June 29, with new daily highs recorded in 12 regional centers.

Axar.az reports, citing Ukrainian media, that the highest temperature was recorded in the northwestern city of Lutsk, where thermometers reached 39.4 degrees Celsius, exceeding forecasts and setting a new daily record.

Record temperatures were also registered in Uzhhorod, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Ternopil, Chernivtsi, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Kropyvnytskyi and Chernihiv, surpassing previous daily highs by 0.1 to 4.8 degrees Celsius.

The weather agency said additional temperature records were broken at numerous meteorological stations across the Volyn, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Kyiv and Mykolaiv regions, adding that hot weather, along with rain and thunderstorms in some areas, was expected to persist on June 30.
