Venezuela earthquake death toll rises to 1,943

The death toll from the powerful earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 1,943.

Axar.az reports, citing Venezuela News, that National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said 10,517 people have been injured, while a total of 15,866 people have been affected by the disaster.

Rodriguez also said authorities have established 14 temporary shelters in La Guaira and 55 more in Caracas, Miranda, and other affected states for those left homeless by the earthquake, which has been followed by more than 600 aftershocks.

The powerful earthquake struck Venezuela on the evening of June 24, with two major tremors measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude occurring about 40 seconds apart.
