Zurich named world’s most expensive city

Zurich, Switzerland ranked as the world’s most expensive city.

Axar.az reports, citing Numbeo, that the ranking is based on continuously updated data and compares cities using New York City as the benchmark index of 100.

Zurich ranked first with a Cost of Living Index of 125.2, followed by George Town, Cayman Islands, at 118.0, and Lucerne, Switzerland, at 114.6. Basel and Geneva completed the top five.

The index takes into account everyday expenses such as groceries, restaurant prices, transportation, utilities, and other consumer costs. Rent is listed separately and is not included in the main Cost of Living Index.

According to the ranking, Moscow placed 307th, with a Cost of Living Index of 51.7.

Several well-known capitals were outside the top 10: Tel Aviv-Yafo ranked 11th, London 23rd, Paris 49st and Berlin 101th.
