Storm triggers flooding across New York -

A powerful storm system has caused flooding in parts of New York City, with Brooklyn and Queens experiencing some of the most severe impacts.

Axar.az reports, citing NBC New York, that the slow-moving storm reached the tri-state area on the night of July 5 after a prolonged heatwave, bringing intense rainfall of up to 2 inches (5 centimetres) per hour. The heavy downpours raised concerns over flash flooding, disruptions to subway services, and potential risks for residents in flood-prone areas.

Weather officials warned that some locations could receive up to 6 inches (15 centimetres) of rain before the storm system leaves the region.

Ahead of the severe weather, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani advised residents to prepare for heavy rainfall.

The storm also affected transportation across the region, causing delays and cancellations at New York City airports and disrupting several NJ Transit rail services.
