Trump threatens higher tariffs on Canada over wildfire smoke

U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to increase tariffs on Canada, accusing the country of failing to properly manage its forests and allowing wildfire smoke to spread into the United States.

Axar.az reports that in a post on Truth Social, Trump said he would speak with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney about the issue, claiming the smoke had caused dangerous air pollution in the U.S.

"This is Willful Negligence, and becoming a yearly occurrence, costing the United States Billions of Dollars, which cost of this pollution must of necessity be added to the TARIFFS Canada is currently paying," he said.

Trump also accused Canada of refusing to carry out basic forest management and debris removal, saying the resulting pollution was "dangerous" and "totally unacceptable."
