European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Thursday described the migrant situation in Ceuta as "unacceptable" and said the European Union would step up support for Spain to help manage the crisis.

Axar.az reports that von der Leyen made a statement on her X account.

"The images coming from Ceuta are unacceptable. We cannot allow anyone to come to our Union without abiding by our rules," von der Leyen wrote.

"Dangerous crossings must stop immediately. Smuggling networks must be dismantled. And returns must be swift, as our rules allow," she added.

It should be noted that nearly 50,000 migrants who entered Ceuta have set vehicles on fire, looted shops, and caused chaos in the city’s streets. According to the report, clashes between migrants and security forces have left 18 people dead.
