A U.S. Marine Corps F-35B fighter jet crashed Friday at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, sparking a brush fire.

Axar.az reports, citing Fox News, that the aircraft, assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 11 under the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, crashed at about 10 a.m. local time in what the Marine Corps described as a "Class A mishap."

"The pilot ejected and was recovered," the U.S. Marines said.

Officials said they had not released details on the pilot's condition or the cause of the crash.

A base spokesperson said emergency crews responded to the incident, which occurred on the flight line. The crash caused a fire in a field north of State Route 52, with video from the scene showing a large scorched area.

Authorities said further information would be released as it becomes available.
