Rubio says US may restart Russia-Ukraine talks

The United States could make a fresh attempt in the coming weeks to restart negotiations between Russia and Ukraine aimed at ending the war.

Axar.az reports that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio made the remarks in an interview with Fox News.

He said Washington remains ready to support any opportunity to advance the peace process.

According to Rubio, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly made clear that the United States is prepared to play a constructive role in efforts to end the conflict.

"The President has made very clear if the United States can play a role in bringing about an end to that war, we're going to continue to explore it," he said.

Rubio added that the Trump administration devoted significant attention to the issue during its first year in office, but that negotiations eventually stalled.

He also said Trump is "the only" world leader capable of bringing Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table to discuss ending the war.
