Turkiye arrests six in probe into 44 forest fires

Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurlek said authorities are investigating 44 forest fires that have occurred in 16 provinces since June 1, 2026, with 29 suspects identified so far.

Axar.az reports that in a post on X, Gurlek said prosecutors are working in coordination with relevant public institutions to determine the causes of the fires and identify those responsible.

"Since June 1, 2026, judicial investigations have been launched into 44 forest fires across 16 provinces. So far, 29 suspects have been identified, six have been arrested, nine have been placed under judicial supervision, and six remain in custody, with legal proceedings against them ongoing," the statement reads.
