Lithuania warns of possible Russian false flag drone attacks

Lithuanian military intelligence believes Russia is considering using captured Ukrainian-made drones to carry out attacks on critical infrastructure in the Baltic region in an attempt to disguise responsibility.

Axar.az reports, citing Lithuanian media, that Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas made the remarks.

"We have data that Russia is considering conducting unconventional kinetic attacks against critical infrastructure in the Baltic region. It is likely that Russia could use Ukrainian-made drones for this purpose," Kaunas said.

According to the minister, Russia could use captured Ukrainian drone parts to assemble functioning drones and launch so-called false flag operations aimed at creating uncertainty over the origin of any attack.

"I want to assure you that Lithuanian intelligence is doing its job, that we are gathering information and see that Russia is considering possible provocations in the Baltic region and the possible use of false flag operations there," Kaunas said.

He stressed that there is no evidence Russia has decided to carry out such an operation or that an attack is imminent.

"There is no specific date. We are observing Russia's planning process, something our NATO allies, including Poland and our Baltic neighbours, are also talking about," he said.
