A cargo ship operated by Hamburg-based shipping company Johann M. K. Blumenthal was damaged in a Russian drone attack off the Ukrainian port of Odesa.

Axar.az reports, citing German media, that the Liberia-flagged vessel EMIL was struck multiple times by drones about 21 nautical miles (39 km) off Odesa on Aug. 5, triggering a fire and disabling key technical systems, leaving the ship unable to maneuver.

All 11 crew members were evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported. There were no German nationals among the crew.

Russia's Defense Ministry said it had targeted cargo ships near Odesa, claiming they were transporting military goods for Ukraine. However, it did not provide evidence to support the claim, and there has been no independent confirmation that EMIL was carrying military cargo.

The shipping company has not yet issued a detailed public statement on the incident.
