Military helicopter crashes in Ukraine, kills one

A military helicopter crashed in Ukraine’s Kirovohrad region on July 31 while carrying out a combat flight mission.

Axar.az reports, citing UNIAN, that the incident became known on August 8 through a statement by the Smila City Council regarding the organization of a farewell ceremony for the deceased serviceman.

According to the report, 28-year-old senior lieutenant Yaroslav Demchevsky, an onboard aviation technician with a helicopter unit of a Ukrainian Armed Forces aviation squadron, was killed in the crash.

“Yaroslav Demchevsky was killed while carrying out a combat flight mission to disperse aviation equipment as a result of the helicopter crash. He defended Ukrainian skies until the very end,” the Smila City Council said.

Ukraine’s Defense Ministry and Air Force have not released information on the cause of the crash.
