German UFO centre investigates 14,000 sightings

Germany’s Central Research Network for Extraordinary Celestial Phenomena (CENAP) has investigated around 14,000 UFO reports as of August 2026.

Axar.az reports, citing Euronews, that CENAP director Hansjurgen Kohler said the organisation is currently receiving three to six reports a day, making it the busiest UFO reporting centre in the German-speaking world.

“We receive between three and six reports a day. Without question, we're the busiest reporting centre in the German-speaking world.”

Kohler, who has investigated unusual sky phenomena for decades, said most sightings can be explained by conventional causes, including aircraft, helicopters, satellites, meteors, planets, balloons and lasers.

The issue has gained renewed attention following the US government’s release of UFO-related footage. Kohler, however, said the material contained little that was new to him and argued that some widely circulated footage can be explained by ordinary phenomena.

“I do not deny that there is life out there. But are we really to believe that they travel across galaxies with highly advanced technology to our blue planet and then crash of all places here above the desert?”

Kohler said some cases investigated by CENAP remain unexplained, but stressed that this does not mean they involve extraterrestrial visitors.

“These were not alien visits. The cases have simply remained unexplained because we lack key information.”

He added that people reporting unusual objects should record the date, time, location, direction in the sky and, if possible, visual evidence to allow the sightings to be properly investigated.
