Armenia considers Azerbaijani gas supplies

Armenia considers Azerbaijani gas supplies to reduce dependence on Russia.

Axar.az, citing Interfax, that Armenia is considering alternative gas supplies, including from Azerbaijan, as it seeks to diversify its energy sources.

According to the report, Azerbaijani gas could be supplied to Armenia through a new pipeline planned as part of the TRIPP (Trump Route) project.

Armenian lawmaker Sarkis Khandanyan said the TRIPP project envisages the construction of a gas pipeline through Armenian territory, which could provide an additional source of gas for the country.

He also noted that the possibility of increasing Iranian gas supplies to Armenia had been discussed during the Armenian infrastructure minister’s visit to Iran in July.

The discussions come amid concerns over Armenia’s heavy dependence on Russian gas and Moscow’s previous warning that the terms of gas supplies could be reconsidered if Yerevan continues its course toward European Union integration.
