Evacuation declared in Dariali near Georgia-Russia border

An evacuation has been declared in Georgia’s Dariali Valley near the Russian border after an early warning system detected changes in water flow in the Devdoraki Gorge.

Axar.az reports, citing Georgia Today, that Georgia’s Interior Ministry said citizens, police officers, customs employees and company representatives were evacuated from the Dariali border crossing.

Traffic near the village of Gveleti was also suspended.

The Revenue Service said the Kazbegi customs checkpoint would resume normal operations once the risks had subsided.
