3 killed, 17 injured in Cairo mall fire

Three people were killed and 17 others injured after a fire broke out at a restaurant inside Arabella Mall in New Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday.

Axar.az reports, citing Ahram Online, that Egyptian security sources said the incident was accompanied by reports of an elevator falling inside the mall, triggering panic among visitors.

Eight ambulances were dispatched to the scene, with 11 injured people taken to New Cairo Specialized Hospital and six others transferred to nearby hospitals, Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar said.

Firefighters contained the blaze before it spread to other parts of the mall. Authorities are investigating the causes of the fire and the reported elevator accident.
