Turkish envoy: Erdogan hopes to visit Syria by year-end

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hopes to visit Syria before the end of this year, although no exact date has been set.

Axar.az reports, citing Turkiye Today, that Turkiye's Ambassador to Syria Nuh Yilmaz made the remarks in an interview with the local outlet, published Friday.

Yilmaz said Erdogan had planned to visit Damascus around April 21, but the trip was prevented by "the outbreak of war and the closure of the airspace."

"There are currently very few things in the world that would make President Erdogan happier than praying at the Umayyad Mosque; he is in love with Damascus," Yilmaz said.
