Ukraine could strike Russia with ballistic missiles

Ukraine could be capable of striking targets inside Russia with domestically produced ballistic missiles within three to six months.

Axar.az reports that, in an interview with CBS News, former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said he expects Ukraine to launch a ballistic missile into Russia by the end of the year.

Ukraine has so far relied heavily on long-range drones and cruise missiles for strikes deep inside Russian territory, while Russia has used ballistic missiles against Ukraine.

“We need to defeat Russia in every technological cycle, and we have to make decisions 24/7,” Fedorov said, adding that Russia was also rapidly developing new military technologies.

In June, Ukrainian defense manufacturer Fire Point tested a ballistic missile, according to CBS News.

Fedorov said Ukraine’s ballistic missile program accelerated during his tenure as defense minister, which ended last month after President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed him.

“Whatever the reason [for dismissal], it is important to understand that Ukraine will continue to fight,” he said.
