Abdullah Gul hails law on Kurdish issue as new opening

Former Turkish President Abdullah Gul said a law published in the Official Gazette with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s approval had opened “a new door” toward resolving the Kurdish issue.

Axar.az reports that Abdullah Gul made a statement on X.

“The law published today in the Official Gazette with the approval of the President has opened a new door in resolving one of the important issues in the history of our Republic, the Kurdish issue,” Gul stated.

Gul congratulated political leaders, particularly Erdogan and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli, as well as state officials who he said had helped lay the groundwork for the agreement.

“I congratulate, above all, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and MHP Chairman Devlet Bahceli, the political leaders who took this courageous step, and the state officials who prepared the ground for this consensus behind the scenes,” he said.

“I wish this law to be beneficial for Turkiye. I have always maintained my belief that good things will happen,” Gul added.
