Former Turkish transport minister’s grave to be exhumed

A decision has been made to exhume the grave of former Turkish Transport Minister Arif Ahmet Denizolgun as part of an investigation into allegations surrounding his death.

Axar.az reports, citing Turkish media, that the Bakirkoy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office requested that Denizolgun’s grave be opened and a new forensic examination conducted to determine the actual cause of his death.

The prosecutor’s office said the decision was made following allegations and complaints that Denizolgun’s death and the autopsy conducted at the time were suspicious.

The exhumation is expected to take place at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, after which forensic experts will conduct a renewed examination to determine whether Denizolgun died of natural causes or whether there was any external intervention.

Denizolgun died on September 6, 2016. Various allegations and suspicions surrounding his death have resurfaced in connection with an investigation into an alleged criminal organization led by Alihan Kurish.
