Four Americans among seven killed in Kenya helicopter crash

Four Americans were among seven people killed in a helicopter crash in northern Kenya, the US State Department confirmed Wednesday.

Axar.az reports, citing CNBC, that the helicopter crashed in the foothills of Mount Ololokwe in Samburu County, and as a result, the six passengers and pilot on board were all killed.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones on their loss,” a US State Department spokesperson said, adding that the US Embassy was in contact with Kenyan authorities and providing consular assistance.

The helicopter was operated by Lady Lori Kenya and was conducting a charter flight from Suyian Conservancy to Mount Ololokwe, the company said.

Among those killed was Jose Suarez, president and general manager of several Telemundo-owned stations in Florida. NBCUniversal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde described Suárez as “an exceptional colleague and mentor to many.”

Ecuador’s National Assembly also confirmed that Michele Sensi-Contugi Ycaza, the country’s director general of the national intelligence center, and his wife, Stephany Hollihan Vásconez, were killed in the crash.
