Kazakhstan’s Kurultai election turnout exceeds 53%

Voter turnout in Kazakhstan’s elections to the unicameral parliament, the Kurultai, has exceeded 50% as of 2 p.m. local time.

Axar.az reports that Secretary of Kazakhstan’s Central Election Commission Shovket Utemisov announced this.

According to him, as of 2 p.m., 6,696,002 voters across the country had received ballots. This accounted for 53.12% of citizens included on the voter rolls.

The lowest voter turnout was recorded in Almaty, the country’s largest city, at 30.36%. The highest turnout was recorded in Kyzylorda Region, at 64.22%. In the capital, Astana, 40.92% of voters had cast their ballots.
