Former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan has been taken to the National Security Service.

Axar.az informs, citing local media, that former President Robert Kocharyan was taken to the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia (RA) early in the morning.

The Anti-Corruption Committee reported that searches are being conducted at the homes of Robert Kocharyan and his son, opposition MP Levon Kocharyan.

"In response, we inform that searches and other procedural actions are being conducted at several dozen addresses within the framework of the criminal proceedings being investigated by the RA Anti-Corruption Committee on cases of corruption-related crimes," said Marina Ohanjanyan, spokesperson for the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia.

According to Armenian media, Robert Kocharyan has been taken to the Anti-Corruption Committee.

His other son, Sedrak Kocharyan, is also currently at the committee.

Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee has revealed details of the criminal case against former President Robert Kocharyan.

According to the committee, six people, including Robert Kocharyan and his son Sedrak Kocharyan, have been detained.

According to investigators, while serving as president, Kocharyan used his position to acquire valuable property that had been removed from state ownership at prices significantly below market value.

A criminal case has been opened against former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan on three charges.

According to the report, on August 24, Armenia’s Prosecutor General initiated a public criminal prosecution against Kocharyan, the country’s second president, on charges of abuse of official powers, accepting a particularly large bribe, and money laundering.

Criminal proceedings have also been launched against nine other people, including Kocharyan’s son Sedrak, former Defense Minister S.S., former Prime Minister A.M., former Yerevan Mayor G.B. (Gagik Beglaryan), and others.

It was reported that during his tenure as president of Armenia from 1998 to 2008, Kocharyan allegedly used his official position to acquire state property on fictitious grounds and purchase a number of properties at prices significantly below market value. The properties included land plots and real estate.

A court has imposed a seizure on real estate belonging to Kocharyan’s family. A search of his home has been completed.
