Oman and Iran have discussed a phased framework for resuming safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Axar.az reports, citing Times of Oman, that Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi and his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, held consultations in Tehran on the issue.

The proposed framework includes establishing a temporary joint navigational corridor through the strait and launching a joint project to clear mines.

The two sides said technical negotiations would continue on a permanent navigation corridor, future management of the strait, information-sharing, traffic management and navigational and security services.

They also called for discussions with other Gulf coastal states and stressed the need to respect international law and the sovereign rights of coastal countries.
