A former White House teleprompter operator has been ordered to repay more than $107,000 in profits and pay a $65,000 civil penalty after using nonpublic information to bet on President Donald Trump’s speeches.

Axar.az reports, citing CBS, that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced the settlement with Gabriel Perez on Friday.

It also imposed a three-year ban on his trading.

The commission found that Perez made $107,500 by betting on words and phrases that would appear in Trump’s speeches between December 2025 and February 2026.

“In his position, Perez had access to presidential speeches prior to those speeches being delivered and Perez misappropriated that information — in breach of his duty of trust and confidence,” the CFTC said.

Perez was placed on unpaid leave after the White House determined that he had used his position to make the bets. A White House official said in July that he was no longer in his position but did not specify whether he had been fired or resigned.

The CFTC said the $65,000 penalty was reduced because of Perez’s “exemplary cooperation.”

Prediction market operator Kalshi detected unusual trading activity in Perez’s account and froze it, locking more than $90,000 in profits. The company subsequently referred the case to the CFTC.

The White House did not immediately comment on the settlement.
