A forest fire that started in Mugla’s Seydikemer district and spread to Antalya’s Kash district due to strong winds is being tackled by firefighting teams from the air and ground.

Axar.az reports, citing Anadolu, that the fire broke out in an agricultural area near the village of Korubuku before spreading to nearby forestland.

Flames later crossed a stream near Saklikent Canyon and reached the Kash district.

The General Directorate of Forestry said 4 planes, 15 helicopters, 72 water tenders, 6 heavy machinery vehicles and 450 personnel were fighting the blaze.

“We are continuing our efforts to bring the fire under control as soon as possible,” the directorate said.

Some homes in Palamut neighborhood were damaged, while several houses and greenhouses in the evacuated Cavdir neighborhood were destroyed as the flames spread.

A separate forest fire also broke out in Kash’s Gelemish neighborhood for an undetermined reason. Authorities deployed 6 helicopters, 4 planes, 10 water tenders and 80 personnel to the area.

Meanwhile, firefighters continued cooling operations in Fethiye after a forest fire there was brought under control on Friday. Another fire in rural Silvan, Diyarbakir province, also spread to forestland and was being tackled by firefighters.
