US approves possible $800M helicopter sale to Iraq

The U.S. Department of State has approved a possible $800 million Foreign Military Sale to Iraq involving Bell 412EPX and Bell 407M helicopters and related equipment.

Axar.az reports, citing the U.S. Department of State, that the proposed package includes GAU-19 machine gun launchers, M260 2.75-inch rocket systems, electro-optical/infrared sensors, missile launch detection systems, radios, spare parts, training and technical support.

According to the State Department, the sale would strengthen Iraq’s ability to address current and future threats and improve its rotary-wing transport, reconnaissance and air-to-surface targeting capabilities.

Bell-Textron, based in Fort Worth, Texas, would be the principal contractor.
