Iran’s Parliament National Security Commission has approved measures requiring vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to pay fees for services provided by Iran, as well as compensation in certain cases.

Axar.az reports, citing Fars News, that the commission’s spokesman, Hasan Ghashghavi, said: “Under Article 3 of the Strategic Action Plan for Ensuring the Security and Development of the Strait of Hormuz, fees will be collected for services we provide, including navigation, environmental, refueling under special circumstances, insurance, safety and other services.”

He added: “These fees will be collected from vessels of countries authorized to transit the Strait of Hormuz, in rials or any other currency designated by the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

The commission also approved requirements for insurance and bank guarantees, as well as the payment of insurance and service fees.

He said: “Countries that caused damage to Iran in any way during the war will be required to reach an agreement with Iran on compensation payments; otherwise, they will not be granted permission to transit the Strait of Hormuz.”
