At least 24 people have died from West Nile virus infections in Greece.

Axar.az reports, citing foreign media, that according to Greece’s National Public Health Organization, 58 more cases have been recorded in the country. The total number of people infected with the virus since the beginning of the year has reached 290. Currently, 32 patients are in intensive care.

Around half of the cases have been reported in the Eastern Attica region in southern Greece, as well as in the northern areas of Athens.

The virus has now spread to six of the country’s 13 administrative regions.

It should be noted that West Nile fever is an acute infectious disease transmitted by mosquitoes. The disease can cause severe headaches and muscle pain, vomiting and drowsiness.
