The death toll from a passenger ferry disaster off the coast of Kyrenia in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has risen to 10 after the body of another missing passenger was recovered, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz said.

Axar.az reports, citing Turkiye's media, that Yilmaz made the announcement during a press conference in the TRNC, where he traveled to offer condolences following the disaster.

"The body of another missing passenger from the vessel has been found," Yilmaz said.

The high-speed passenger ferry, operating between Kyrenia Port and Tasucu in Turkiye’s Mersin province, began taking on water from its bow shortly after leaving Kyrenia around noon on Sunday. It capsized while attempting to return to port.

A total of 239 people were rescued, while the bodies of 10 passengers have now been recovered. Search operations are continuing for the remaining missing people. The wreckage was located at a depth of about 550 meters off Kyrenia.

Nine people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
