Trump threatens to halt trade with US deficit countries

U.S. President Donald Trump has demanded that the Federal Reserve cut interest rates, threatening to halt trade with countries with which the United States runs trade deficits.

Axar.az reports that, in a Truth Social post reacting to the August jobs report, Trump urged the Fed and its chairman, Kevin Warsh, to cut rates, arguing that a stronger U.S. economy should mean lower borrowing costs.

“LOWER THE RATE OR I’LL STOP TRADING WITH COUNTRIES WITH WHICH WE HAVE A DEFICIT,” Trump wrote. “IT’S BETTER THAN TARIFFS!”

Trump added that "Without the United States agreeing to allow them their big surpluses, and we could stop that immediately, they would no longer be considered financially ELITE!"

Trump also said the United States should have “the LOWEST RATE of any country in the World,” arguing that high interest rates put the country at an “unfair disadvantage.”

"The Fed Board, with its great new leader, must get smart - BE PATRIOTS for a change. High interest rates put the U.S.A. at a very unfair disadvantage, and I won’t allow that to happen," he added.
