The State Department said Friday it approved the possible sale of Joint Direct Attack Munitions-Extended Range (JDAM-ER) to Saudi Arabia for $5 billion.

Axar.az reports, citing Al Arabia, that the State Department said it also approved a separate $750 million sale of AGT-150 engines.

“The proposed sale will improve Saudi Arabia’s capability to meet current and future threats by bolstering its readiness, ability to support operational requirements, and capabilities necessary to achieve improved interoperability and execution of bilateral contingency plans,” it said.

Boeing and Honeywell will be the principal contractors for the JDAM-ERs and AGT-150 engines, respectively.

Meanwhile, Washington approved two more sales to Oman and Iraq, underscoring the broader significance of the approvals.

The State Department said it approved the possible sale of F-16 aircraft sustainment services to Muscat for an estimated $188 million.

Another potential sale worth $150 million was approved for Iraq to purchase Bell 412EPX helicopters.
