Sweden will procure around 10 HIMARS launchers and a significant amount of ammunition in a deal worth around SEK 7 billion ($729 million), Defence Minister Pal Jonson said Monday.
Axar.az reports that Jonson stated on his X account that the first systems would be delivered next year, strengthening Sweden’s long-range artillery capabilities.
The HIMARS systems will enable the Swedish Army to strike command posts, air defence, logistics and artillery at significantly greater distances than its current systems, Jonson said.
Sweden will also cooperate with Finland on training, maintenance and repairs for the systems. Saab and Lockheed Martin have signed a letter of intent on producing rocket artillery ammunition in Sweden, including GLSDB.
