Bolivian authorities on Monday confirmed that seven people died and seven others remained missing after an explosion at a military barracks in Viacha on Friday.

Axar.az reports, citing Reuters, that Army Commander Hector Alarcon said the priority was finding those still missing and providing answers to their families.

Health Minister Marcela Flores said 84 people had been treated following the blast, with 31 remaining hospitalized.

President Rodrigo Paz said the cause was under investigation but appeared to have been an accident involving the improper handling of explosives stored at the facility.

The explosion occurred at around 2:30 p.m. local time on Friday in an area used to store pyrotechnic material, authorities said. Paz declared a period of national mourning and said the armed forces were reviewing safety protocols.
