Wildfires continued to burn in Turkiye’s southern provinces of Antalya and Adana on Sept. 8, forcing evacuations as strong winds hampered firefighting efforts.

Axar.az reports, citing Turkish media, that in Antalya’s Aksu district, a fire that broke out in the Karaoz area spread rapidly in winds of up to 30 kph, reaching residential areas and advancing toward Dosemealti. Authorities evacuated 254 homes and 720 people in Aksu and neighboring Kepez, while further evacuations were underway in Yesilkaraman.

Emergency teams also evacuated animals, including those from a municipal shelter. Nearly 3,000 subscribers lost power in the area. More than 1,000 personnel, along with aircraft, helicopters, water tankers and heavy machinery, were deployed to fight the blaze. Officials said its intensity had decreased, while smoke and ash reached central Antalya.

In Adana’s Kozan district, a separate wildfire spread across the Doganalani and Duzagac areas, prompting precautionary evacuations. Seven homes were destroyed.

The General Directorate of Forestry said fires in Antalya’s Serik, Kayseri’s Yahyali, and Adana’s Karaisali and Feke districts had been brought under control, with cooling operations continuing.
